Abstract

In the context of psychiatric reform in Brazil, new spaces of health care have been created, including the Centers for Psychosocial Care (CAPS). In the state of Alagoas, their implementations have been substantially increased. This is qualitative research approach, of the case study type. Guided interviews were made to collect material and thematic analysis for the discussion of results. It aims to assess the health care provided in these new services in Alagoas, from the perspective of its users. The results point to the unanimous recognition and appreciation of the CAPS by allowing patients to return home, restore confidence, autonomy and identity and have the health professionals as partners in their journey. They highlight the need for investment in physical infrastructure, availability of suitable materials, within the territory and the urgency to implementing the emergency services and qualification of beds in General Hospitals.
