Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the factors related to early weaning in multiparous. This quantitative study was conducted with 87 women who were in the immediate postpartum rooming-in at a public hospital. The data were obtained through interviews and processed with SPSS, version 13.0. Most mothers were between 20 and 25 years of age, more than seven years of study, were married / consensual union and had had 3 to 5 pregnancies. Data demonstrated that among the 83 (95.4%) mothers who had experienced previous breastfeeding, 58 (69.87%) had done so for more than 4 months. Among multiparae who early weaned, formula (46.93%) was the first food offered for the baby. The main reason to do it was to believe the baby doesn’t accept or like breast-milk anymore. Thus, it is observed that further clarification about breast-feeding process must be urgent among mothers.
