Resumo

Este artigo discute o recorrente imbróglio entre “simbolismo” e “pragmática”, na teoria antropológica. A partir do ritual Naven (Iatmul), comparado com outros registros etnográficos, e do escrutínio de um modelo lógico-teórico para os rituais (Severi e Houseman), é proposto um horizonte alternativo, voltado para a poética, a partir do qual se sugere a necessidade de um olhar mais detido sobre os pressupostos envoltos nas noções de “linguagem”, “símbolo”, “performance”, “expressão” e “imagem”.

Kleyton Rattes, Departamento de Ciências Sociais da Universidade Federal do Ceará

Professor Adjunto do "Departamento de Ciências Sociais" da Universidade Federal do Ceará. Doutor e mestre em Antropologia Social pelo Museu Nacional (Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro). Bacharel em Ciências Sociais pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. Formação e pesquisas com ênfase nas seguintes áreas: Etnologia, Antropologia da Arte (Poéticas, Literaturas e Imagens) e Ritual.
