Globalização, Responsabilidade e a Dor do Outro Distante: notas para uma agenda de pesquisa

Resumo

O artigo apresenta fundações teóricas, metodológicas e ético-políticas para uma agenda de pesquisa sociológica sobre o “sofrimento à distância” (Boltanski), isto é, todo o complexo conjunto de fenômenos sociopsicológicos envolvidos na apresentação e na recepção de informações e imagens midiáticas acerca de tragédias que afetam indivíduos e coletividades espacialmente distantes e culturalmente heterogêneos. O caráter fundacional do trabalho está refletido em sua tentativa de situar um programa de investigação dos registros narrativos e visuais do sofrimento distante, bem como de seus impactos cognitivos, morais, emocionais e práticos sobre seus receptores, no seio de preocupações sociológicas e normativas amplamente veiculadas a respeito: a) dos efeitos da globalização sobre concepções de responsabilidade moral; b) das condições psicológicas ou motivacionais de difusão de uma ética cosmopolita; c) e, por fim, dos modos pelos quais a proximidade e a distância influenciam os “sentimentos morais” dos atores humanos.
