Abdias Nascimento e a Tradição Intelectual Afrodiaspórica: no combate ao racismo

Resumo

O trabalho se concentrará no trabalho intelectual de Abdias Nascimento, que se estendeu durante a maior parte do século XX para combater o racismo no Brasil, durante uma era de suposta “democracia racial”. Analisarei especificamente o desenvolvimento intelectual do Teatro Experimental Negro, em especial o jornal Quilombo e o conceito de quilombismo, que Nascimento desenvolveria muitos anos depois, como estratégia para lidar com o “racismo sem racistas”. Seu trabalho como ativista e intelectual é particularmente útil para a compreensão de como lançar perspectivas históricas relevantes e como combater o racismo numa época em que o modelo brasileiro de “democracia racial” tem sido adotado em alguma medida no mundo atlântico. Este discurso tem sido muito bem sucedido sob a forma de “racismo cego” nos Estados Unidos. Vida e obra de Abdias Nascimento oferecem, assim, elementos de  reflexão sobre pessoas de ascendência africana que lutaram contra o racismo no contexto do “racismo cego”.
