This paper revisits the poetic production of Jáder de Carvalho to explore what in it fi gure as a driving force and indicate the poet’s maturity in handling the word: childhood and old age, moved by the gears from memory. Carvalho’s poetic text presents the stages of human age with their specifi c forms of organization and complexity. Thus, we analyze the meaning units related to these imaginary: in chil-dhood, backlands, landscape, travel; in old age, loneliness, silence, absense. Often, the old man fi nds the boy he once was, in a dialogue permeated of encouragement and happiness or melancholy and resentment. Lighting the poetic text from other inventories of knowledge, the theoretical investments of Alfredo Bosi, Clara Rocha, Paula Morão and Marcello Mathias Duarte, in offering us refl ection about the autobio-graphical texts, are combined to study the Jáder’s poetry.</div><div><strong>Key-words:</strong> childhood, old age, autobiography.</div> ER -
