Abstract

The Parish Registers Land of the Vila de Patos in the province of Parahyba do Norte fulfilled out between the years 1855-1856 provides in its context important information for the understanding of land tenure and the study of property in the construction of that society in the nineteenth century. In this ambit the donation of land is attributed to the firmament of possession and legitimacy on the part of families who maintained their local power. Seeking to discuss the donation of land as a mechanism that showed the female performance within the social construct, family, marking its position as owner. From these registers, among other documents, this article aims to think about the female condition in the nineteenth century, having as a parameter the study related to Social History. Problematizing the aspects present in primary documentation and historiography is one of the objectives that will allow us to better understand the role of women as landowners between donation practices as a way of legitimizing these possessions.
