Abstract

In this essay a series of problems of political and educative nature (the notion of culture, humanities and university) is analysed. Even if they exceed the better known work of the philosopher Eric Weil, they are in harmony with the notion of education which is found throughout the author’s thought. The analysed texts correspond to articles and conferences that the author gave in the seventies (especially written in English in collaboration with the journal Daedalus). They were written during his ultimate years of university teaching in Nice University. The fundamental question – here seen from another angle – remains the same of his political philosophy: what is the educational role of the State and its institutions?
