O presente artigo trata das discussões empreendidas por Michel Foucault no que tange a consolidação de uma analítica do poder por ele denominada de genealogia, bem como as repercussões dessa modalidade de reflexão filosófica na teoria de gênero de Judith Butler. Inicialmente se delimita a concepção genealógica em Foucault, analisando a genealogia como crítica engajada em processos de transformação das distribuições do poder. Posteriormente, evidencia-se como Butler, a partir do marco de pensamento foucaultiano, realiza análises em torno das experiências de sexo, gênero e sexualidades que explicitam os artifícios na fabricação dos marcos de inteligibilidade culturais e epistemológicos que consolidam as relações de saber-poder sobre as quais se debruça sua genealogia do gênero.
