Abstract

Dona Sinhá e o filho padre, with the first edition of 1964, is the subject of analysis of this article. It is the first seminovela of the Pernambuco writer Gilberto Freyre [1900-1987]. Presenting, describing and interpreting the specifics of Dona Sinhá e o filho padre are central objectives here. The forge of the narrative, interspersed with the fictional plot and the literary self-criticism, is associated with the aesthetics of the pleasure of the text in the Gilberto Freyre way of doing literature. For this, the writer approaches "topical narratives", such as sexuality and sugar-patriarchy, founders of the composition of the structure of the seminovela that borrows the Recife of the late nineteenth and early twentieth.
