Application of RDA in the cataloging of historical monuments in Fortaleza

Abstract

As time went by, the amount of information recorded increased considerably, driven by the creation of new forms of recording. This growth encouraged the development of techniques for organizing this information, aiming to make it more accessible and facilitate its recovery and use. In the cataloging of documents, artifacts and architectural details, it becomes possible to create detailed records, which are essential for the maintenance and restoration of historical monuments. In this context, in view of the need to safeguard the memory of a society, this research has as its main objective to provide a cataloging model in digital media for the historical monuments of the city of Fortaleza. The research has an applied nature, qualitative approach and descriptive character, using bibliographic and documentary research as data collection instruments. The analytical procedure adopted is content analysis, which allowed the manipulation of the messages, their content and their expression, highlighting relationships present in the analyzed material. For this purpose, a sample composed of the cataloging of two historical monuments of Fortaleza that can be analyzed as a whole was prepared, and the proposed model was presented. The results obtained pointed to the innovation that RDA offers in the registration of these assets in a digital environment, as long as pertinent instructions are provided for their cataloging. Therefore, it is concluded that the techniques used in library work are indispensable for the preservation of collective memory.
