Abstract

A floating puerulus collector, adapted from the Australian model, was developed at the Marine Science Laboratory (LABOMAR), Federal University of Ceará,Brazil. The collector was tested at Mucuripe Beach (Fortaleza, Ceará State) and shows to be efficient and resistent to the local conditions. The average catches of pueruli per month was 6.55 in 1990 and 6.62 in 1991, resulting in indexes of 1.31 and 1.32 ind./collector/month, respectively.
