THE CONSTRUCTION OF POINT OF VIEW IN COMMENTS ON A POST ABOUT FEMININITY/MASCULINITY

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the construction of the point of view in a post about femininity/masculinity from the profile @_simplesebela on Instagram. The theoretical-methodological framework that underpins and guides our analysis is based on works from Brazilian Textual Linguistics, such as Cortez (2011; 2013), Custódio-Filho (2011), Cavalcante, Custódio-Filho and Brito (2014), Cavalcante et al. (2022), Cavalcante and Muniz-Lima (2021) and Muniz-Lima (2024). To compose the corpus, we selected a post made on November 15, 2022 on the mentioned profile and a set of comments related to it. For the analysis, we observed how technological and linguistic elements present in the video and in the description of the initiating post, and in some comments resulting from it, relate to the construction of the masculinity/femininity referent and, in parallel, to the manifestation of points of view. In the analysis carried out, it is clear that the objects of discourse are being developed/altered, revealing points of view related to a more or less conservative view of the referents under analysis. Based on the observation of the corpus, it is possible to conclude that the recategorization of the referents listed by the first speaker/enunciator and by the other speakers/enunciators helps in this change of point of view — and, consequently, in the maintenance or alteration of the central theme.
