Abstract

This work analyzes the trajectory developed by the character Nãozinha de Jesus in the whole of Mia Couto's work in the perspective of demonstrating how, from the existential path around it, the author shows nuances of the transcultural dynamics that permeates the formation of his country . To this end, the readings of the short story “O adeus da sombra” and the novel A Varanda do Frangipani (2007) are proposed in the light of the concepts of transculturation, contact zones and narrative transculturation, developed by Fernando Ortiz (1963), Mary Pratt (1999) and Ángel Rama (2001), respectively. Engineered in view of specific territoriality problems, the concepts of the aforementioned scholars are shown to be effective in the attempt to understand narratives produced within the African countries of Lusophony, as they favor the understanding of meaning negotiations, intercultural dialogues and intellectual strategies that gain space in the literary production of places in which different cultures are placed in dialogues from coercive and imposing circumstances.
