Determining factors of the practice of contraceptive methods between colleges students of the area of the health

Abstract

The objective of this research is to know the determining factors of the practice of contraceptive methods between college students of the health area. It was used a form with structured questions applied to (440) colleges students aged (18 to 24) of the Faculdade Santa Terezinha (CEST). The statistic analysis was accomplished through the program Epi-Info and by means of the qui-square test. Among the searched college students (66.7%) answered to have already started their sexual life. Most of the college students (41.9%) had started the sexual life at the age of (19 to 20) years; in the first sexual relation (65.2%) used some contraceptive method. The most commonly used method in the first sexual relation was the condom (80.3%). Currently (82.7%) of the colleges students are still using condoms. They say they know the condom and that they had no doubt about the method. They declared that 78.9% have 1 partner a year with about one or two sexual relations 56.9% per week. The university students do not have many partners, but they usually have sexual relations.
