Causes and characteristics of men’s resistance to vasectomy

Abstract

Vasectomy consists of a surgical safe method; however, men reject the procedure. In the present study it was made a research about the causes of resistance presented by the men concerning their knowledge, the side effects, biological, social as well as tocogynecological characteristics of the men researched as well as of the partner concerning the contraceptive methods(CM) used. It was accomplished a descriptive exploratory study with the transversal cut prevalence. It took place at the ambulatory of a hospital institution in Recife with the women and the respective partner, companions to the consultation. The daily amount selected in October 2003 was 100. It was accomplished an interview with a form and the data were analyzed statistically. The frequency of the non-realization of vasectomy was 55% and that was due to the willingness of having more children (45,5%). Most of those who rejected having the vasectomy did so because they wanted to have more children (45, 5%).
