Abstract

The issue “violence” represents a very serious social problem that trespasses the fields of justice and public health, and it is also a subject of social movements everywhere. An exploratory study with a qualitative and quantitative approach with the objective of identifying women’s profile and suffering who were assisted at the Women Defense Police Station in the city of Sobral – CE. The research was carried out between April and June, 2003. Two hundred women participated in data collection, which was a non-probabilistic intentional one. Intending to collect proper data, we used a form that was filled out by the complaining women. The results clearly show that the most frequent forms of violence are the psychological and corporeal ones. Fear, tension, regret, revenge, rage and deception are the feelings that derive from women victimized by violence and their daily suffering.
