Resumen

A descriptive retrospective study was carried out in order to describe the obstetrical aspects in 30 puerperal with Hellp Syndrome admitted to a public maternity in Fortaleza-Ceará, from January 1, 2003 to September 31, 2004. A total of 8,617 deliveries occurred during this period. Of the mothers involved, 648 (7, 5%) had hypertension and in 30 (4, 7%) of them it progressed to Help Syndrome. We analyzed chronological age, gestational age, parity, delivery route, and clinical/ obstetrical complications. Seventy percent of the patients were multiparous and 57% were aged 13 – 30 years. Eclampsia represented 40% of the complications and prematurity 57%. Only 41% had made 4-6 prenatal visits. Regarding the type of delivery, 57% were through caesarean sections. Almost all cases of Hellp Syndrome presented more than one clinical or obstetrical complication. We conclude that the presence of Hellp Syndrome contributes to an increase in these complications, possibly elevating the rates of morbidity and mortality among these puerperae.
