Abstract

This review looks at Adam Przeworski's most recent book: “Crises of Democracy”. In this work, the author takes a systematic look at political changes that has been worrying analysts about the fate of democracy. Some glimpse its erosion to a limit of no return, others fear that democratic regimes will not survive the political malaise. In turn, the author ponders on several aspects that may or may not be associated with these diagnoses, including circumstances without precedents. However, although Przeworski sees the current scenario with great concern, his work does not cast fatalistic omens on democracies. His book deliberately leaves some questions open, as it recognizes the methodological limits in political analysis. But, in the end, his work constitutes an important effort on the subject by taking a systematic look at the current situation.
