Abstract

The aim of this research was to identify the nurses’ conception concerning acceptance and bonding in gynecological consultation in a secondary care unit of a cancer prevention institute, in Fortaleza-Ceará-Brazil. A descriptive study with qualitative approach was carried out with six nurses through semi-structured interviews, from September to October 2007. We used content analysis to organize and interpret the data. Nurses expressed that effective welcoming is possible to happen when we carefully listen to the patients’ complaints. The users’ financial and social conditions were mentioned as barriers to access the health service. It was concluded that the secondary care service conducts the acceptance in a restrict way and does not promote the development and maintenance of the bond.
